Gallienus | AE Antoninianus Reference: RIC V.1 610 Date: 267 CE Obverse: GALLIENVS AVG; bust radiate, right Reverse: SALVS AVG: Apollo, nude, standing left, holding laurel-branch; to right, tripod. PXV in exergue Mint: Antioch or uncertain Eastern mint Size: 21.7 mm Weight: 2.02 grams Struck on a broader, thin flan. Antoninianii from Gallienus' sole reign are rarely datable to a single year, as the designs are usually generic and the title usually leaves out tribunician and consular numbers. That is not the case with this fine Antiochene antoninianus. The PXV in the exergue stands for [Tribunicia] P[otestate] XV" or "Holding the tribunician power for the fifteenth time". As these powers were renewed on December 10th of every year. Therefore this coin was struck between December 10th, 266 and December 10th, 267 CE (from a probability perspective it was struck in 267 CE). Policies I apply the highest ethical standards in selling ancient coins. All coins are guaranteed to be genuine and any item found to be otherwise may be returned for a full refund.
