Maximinus II Roman AE Coin (AD 311-313) - NGC Certified (CH-VF) Diocletian created the Tetrarchy to ensure a seamless power transition after an Emperor's death. Ultimately, it led to civil war. Maximinus, the nephew of Galerius, rose as Caesar in 305 and ascended to Augustus six years after. He fell victim to the Tetrarchy's Civil Wars, where contenders aimed to dominate and eliminate each other; he took his own life following defeat by Licinius I. A firm pagan, he led one of the final organized persecutions against Christians.
