This silver tetradrachm was struck in Antioch during Galba’s brief reign and is cataloged as RPC I 4196 / McAlee 305. The reverse depicts an eagle standing on a thunderbolt, flanked by a palm frond—symbols of Roman power and divine favor.
The obverse presents a right-facing laureate portrait of Galba with the surrounding legend reading IMP SER GALBA CAESAR, identifying him as Imperator Servius Galba Caesar. The portrait is rendered in a stern and realistic style fully consistent with early imperial Roman engraving, emphasizing the emperor’s mature features and disciplined bearing rather than idealized youth.
