Another, stylistically dated to the 2nd century AD, is inscribed on a Roman phalera :"inventori lucis soli invicto augusto" (to the contriver of light, sol invictus augustus ). Statuettes of Sol Invictus, carried by the standard-bearers, appear in three places in reliefs on the Arch of Constantine.

As emperor, Constantine enacted many administrative, financial, social, and military reforms to strengthen the empire. A new gold coin, the solidus, was introduced to combat inflation. The first Roman emperor to claim conversion to Christianity, Constantine played an influential role in the proclamation of the Edict of Milan in 313, which decreed tolerance for Christianity in the empire.
