Ancient Roman 3rd Century Barbarous Radiate Crown Coin – A Dopey Nose Emporer

This heavily-circulated ungraded 3rd Century barbarous radiate crown coin is from the Roman Imperial era and composed primarily of copper or bronze. The obverse depicts an unidentified emperor with a very dopey looking nose and the reverse includes what appears to be a palm branch and possibly a modest figure. The emperor actually looks like a court jester in my humble opinion. The coin is smaller than a Roosevelt dime and weighs approximately 1.75 g. Refer to the photographs regarding its condition and weight.

Ancient Roman 3rd Century Barbarous Radiate Crown Coin

This ungraded circulated Roman Imperial Era copper (or bronze) coin weighs ~3.3 g and is a little shorter than a modern Roosevelt dime along its shortest diameter, but a bit longer along its widest diameter. The piece appears to be a “barbarous radiate crown” minted in the 3rd century AD, but might be an Antoninus. The obverse depicts a bearded emperor and a perhaps a tribute to “Venus”on its reverse.
