NGC XF Roman AR Denarius of Julia Domna AD193-217 Ancient Silver EXTREMELY FINE

NGC XF Roman AR Denarius Julia Domna AD193-217 NGC Ancients EXTREMELY FINEJulia Domna—wife, Augusta, and primary advisor to Septimius Severus—working in a patriarchal system that officially excluded her from assuming absolute power, nevertheless managed to have her way. Unlike her predecessors, Julia Domna accompanied her husband on his military campaigns, and was known as the Lady of the Camp. The troops adored her, and she dispensed sage military advice. She bore Septimius two sons, Geta and Caracalla, who became co-emperors upon Septimius’ death in 211. After Geta was assassinated by his brother’s agents, Julia Domna served as Caracalla’s advisor until his own assassination in 217. When his enemy Macrinus became emperor, Julia Domna was unable to bear not being in control. Rather than surrender to the new emperor, she commited suicide by starvation. NGC VF BI Double Denarius of Tetricus I ROMANO-GALLIC EMPIRE NGC Antoninianus

NGC VF BI Double Denarius of Tetricus AD271 - 274 ROMANO-GALLIC EMPIRE The Gallic Empire, a breakaway state from the Roman Empire during Emperor Gallienus's rule, comprised Britannia, Hispania, and Gaul. Gaius Pius Esuvius Tetricus, initially governor of Gallia Aquitania, became its emperor from 271 to 274 AD after the murder of Emperor Victorinus. Tetricus faced external threats from Germanic raiders and internal challenges, leading him to appoint his son, Tetricus II, possibly as co-emperor. Roman Emperor Aurelian invaded in 273 or 274, resulting in the Battle of Châlons and Tetricus's surrender. Whether the capitulation was part of a secret agreement or a necessity is debated. Aurelian spared Tetricus, making him a senator and governor. Tetricus died a few years after 274 from natural causes.
