BAKTRIA INDO-GREEK. ANTIMACHOS II. LANDS GAINED FROM ALEXANDER THE GREAT

ANTIMACHOS II (or ANTIMACHUS II)BAKTRIA INDO-GREEK KINGS CIRCA 160-155 BCE Obverse: BAΣIΛEOΣ NIKHΦOPOY ANTIMAXOY, Nike advancing left with wreath and palm. Text is Greek on obverse. Reverse: King on horseback right. Reverse script is Kharoṣṭhī, an ancient Gandhara language (modern-day Afghanistan and Pakistan). Attribution Index: Bop 1D, Mitchiner, Indo-Greek-; SNG ANS 424, MIG 135c, Typ 135 a Bopearachchi S. 197, 20 Vorzüglich. Denomination: AR Drachm Metal: Silver Weight: 2.34 g Diameter: 16.3 mm Assessment of Condition: I will leave the assessment of the coin's value to be determined by the Buyer based upon an evaluation of the photographs. This would be considered a VERY, VERY SCARE TO RARE COIN as assessed by WILDWINDS.COM was but one single coin within their extensive database for ANTIMACHOS II to match this example! Historical Background and Significance: Just like his predecessor or contemporary Apollodotus I, Antimachus II did not strike a portrait on his coins, likely since this was not custom in India. Neither did the early kings strike tetradrachms. Antimachus II struck a large number of bilingual drachms on the same lighter Indian standard as Apollodotus I, though round in shape. On the obverse is Nike, and on the reverse a king on horseback. Antimachus II was succeeded by Menander I who inherited three of his four monograms. Antimachus II probably fought with the Bactrian king Eucratides I, who had dethroned his father in Bactria. Antimachus II also issued bilingual bronzes with aegis / laurel wreath and palm. Both these and the goddess Nike seem to allude to his epithet "the Victorious". Specific Details Regarding Our Transaction and Statements of FactAUTHENTICITY: I guarantee each coin is in fact genuine as described. If a contrary evaluation is determined by NGC, CNG, or PCGS, within 30 days of purchase, I will refund your purchase price in full when presented with documentation, with the SELLER paying all return shipping.COIN CLEANSING & ATTRIBUTION: Each coin has undergone thorough research and attribution using the most up to date computerized databases and manual texts. A comparative search has been conducted for coins of similar condition recently sold at auction both within the United States and Internationally to establish a baseline price. Soiled coins undergo a mild cleansing with an anti-bacterial soap and final preservation with the most expensive sealant used by the British Museum of Coins (BMC); Renaissance Wax, which is applied with a light cotton buffing cloth. If additional cleansing is necessary, wax is applied using a jewelers polishing tool with a nylon brush to bring out their luster. No harsh chemicals or abrasives are used.STATEMENT OF FACTS: (1.) You will receive the exact coin for which you placed your bid. (2.) I accept PAYPAL only with payment received within five (5) days of completion of our transaction. (3.) If you so choose to void your conditional side of the agreement of the contract, eBay will automatically open an unpaid case against you after four days, seriously jeopardizing your purchasing ability in the future.COMMUNICATIONS: Make absolutely certain that your email address is correct, and that your mailbox is monitored, and that our communications are not located in your Junk Files. If it becomes impossible to communicate with you, then I cannot conduct our transaction. IMAGES, DESCRIPTION, RATIONALE FOR PRICE: If there is an obvious die flaw or problem with the coin’s flan, it will be addressed in the description as well as photographed specifically. All photographs were produced using a 5.1 megapixel Fuji Finepix camera using macro-mode with maximum pixels. The only modification made to each and every photograph uniformly has been to automatically adjust for contrast against a contrasting background, thus returning silver and bronze to their natural state. The coins are clearly described using the most accurate catalog sources available. At times, an unreported variant of a coin may arise, and if so a “V” will be listed following the most accurate cataloged or described coin available. I will have attempt to locate a similar coin which has been offered at auction meeting the similar physical condition, surface die stamp, and overall quality as the basis for an opening bid. I do not search for the most expensive price, but a coin which most closely resembles the coin offered for sale.
