The obverse presents a draped imperial bust of Philip II, the youthful ruler shown in the formal manner of Roman provincial portraiture. Although the legends are softly preserved, the type would have carried his imperial titulature in Greek, typically beginning with ΑΥΤ Κ Μ ΙΟΥΛΙ ΦΙΛΙΠΠΟC CΕΒ, expanded as Autokrator Kaisar Marcus Ioulios Philippos Sebastos, “Emperor Caesar Marcus Julius Philip, Augustus.”.
